Dr. Monica Dweck, a native New Yorker and graduate of Princeton University, received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine. She completed a transitional internship at Hartford Hospital and a residency in Ophthalmology at The New York Ear and Eye Infirmary, where she was the first African American woman in their training program in their 200 year history. She went on to do a fellowship in Oculoplastic, Reconstructive and Orbital surgery at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, the first woman of color in the country to receive this type of fellowship training. Dr. Dweck is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Prior to joining Mount Sinai Doctors Brooklyn Heights in 2013, she served as Director of Oculoplastic Surgery, Vice Chair and Program Director in the Department of Ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Her current affiliations include Mount Sinai Medical Center and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. Dr. Dweck is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, National Medical Association and American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Dweck has been a board member of the New York State Board of Medicine since 2001. Among numerous honors and awards, US News and World Report has listed her annually since its “Top Doctor” inaugural listing in 2011. She has been named yearly in Castle Connolly “New York Metro Best Doctors” issues since 2000. The New York Times Magazine has included her on an annual basis in their “New York Super Doctors” since 2009. A tribute in her honor was presented to Congress in 2008 by Representative Ed Towns. In 2019 and 2020, Dr Dweck was recognized as one of the “Exceptional Women in Medicine” by Castle Connolly Medical.
She currently serves as the Director of Career Planning Services at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and as a Faculty Advisor.
