Dr. Andrea R. Dean is a Michigan native. She graduated from Wayne State University in 2001, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. In 2005, she obtained her Doctorate of Medicine from Wayne State School of Medicine. In 2008, she completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Texas Houston. After which, Dr. Dean worked as a Hospitalist at Providence Park Hospital in Novi, Michigan before starting her fellowship in Leukemia at MD Anderson Cancer Center. In 2013, she completed her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of North Carolina Chapel-Hill, which is known for its exceptional training in benign hematology. In addition, Dr. Dean has spent time at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and San Rafael Hospital in Milan, Italy during the course of her training.
Dr. Dean is a triple board certified Hematologist/Oncologist with 15 years of experience. She has spent the past 7 years working at Loyola University Medical Center Chicago as a specialist in benign and malignant blood disorders. She has taught medical students, residents and fellows in training. She has been a member of the American Telemedicine Association, American Society of Hematology and American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Dean has volunteered in the community and her local church. In 2018, she was honored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for her volunteer work.
Dr. Dean is passionate about outreach and providing expert hematological care to the community. In July 2021, she launched Hematology Connect which provides easy access to benign hematology care via telemedicine. Telemedicine is the practice of caring for patients remotely by computer, tablet or mobile device. With the use of telemedicine patients can by seen virtually anywhere. From residing in rural areas, nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, college campuses, to being homebound due mental/physical limitations, to having transportation issues or facing circumstances preventing an in-person doctor visit. Hematology Connect works alongside primary care physicians, medical oncologists and other specialists to provide the best hematological care possible.
